Gago Coutinho international airport, in Faro, will reach a movement of 10 million passengers in 2025, the largest in its history, which represents a growth of 6% compared to 2024, it was announced this Friday, December 19th.

ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, the company that manages the airport, said in a statement that “in the year in which it celebrates 60 years, Gago Coutinho Airport registers 10 million passengers”, a growth of 6% compared to 2024.

According to the note, in 2025 the international connectivity of this airport was “significantly reinforced” with the opening of six new routes – Newark [Estados Unidos da América] with United Airlines, Helsinki (Finland) with Finnair, Reykjavik (Iceland) with Play, Funchal with TAP, Riga (Latvia) with Air Baltic and Krakow (Poland) with Ryanair – and nine new operations.

According to ANA, four new airlines joined the regular operation, bringing the total number of carriers present in Faro to 33, with the airport currently connected to 22 countries and 77 destinations.

The United Kingdom remains the main market, representing 46% of total traffic, followed by Germany, Ireland, France and the Netherlands.

According to the company that manages Gago Coutinho Airport, the 2024/25 winter was the best ever, with “remarkable growth that contributes to the reduction of seasonality”, having, between 2015 and 2025, more than doubled winter traffic.

“This result reflects the confidence of passengers, partners, the community and airlines, as well as the commitment of our teams. We will continue to invest to connect the Algarve to the world with an ambitious sustainability strategy to ensure that the future is as promising as this present”, said the executive president (CEO) of ANA/Vinci Airports, Thierry Ligonnière, quoted in the statement.

ANA, which is responsible for managing 10 airports in Portugal, became part of the VINCI Airports network in September 2013, which manages the development and operation of more than 70 airports located in 14 countries.

Faro – Gago Coutinho International Airport was opened on July 11, 1965 and played a decisive role in the economic development of the Algarve.
