Ukraine claims to have attacked an oil tanker from Russia’s so-called ‘ghost fleet’ with aerial drones 2,000 kilometers from its borders.
It is the first attack of its kind in the Mediterranean since Moscow’s large-scale invasion almost four years ago.
This Friday’s attack off the coast of Libya, which caused critical damage, coincided with Vladimir Putin’s year-end review press conference, in which he assured that Moscow would respond to the recent Ukrainian attacks on the oil tankers of the shadow fleet.
🇺🇦Ukraine has launched an ‘out of area’ operation. Using aerial attack drones, it struck the (empty) 🇷🇺Russian shadow fleet tanker MV Qendil in the Mediterranean, north of Libya.
Unclear if drones launched from Ukraine or more likely another ship? pic.twitter.com/KEHiwnqP4S
