Four people died after a wave hit this Sunday, December 7, in the afternoon, the natural pool on Cangrejo Island, on the coast of Los Gigantes, in the municipality of Santiago del Teide, in the south of Tenerife.

Initially, three people were rescued dead and a woman who had been taken to a hospital, but ended up dying on Sunday night.

At the same time, the search for a missing person continues, sources from the Government of the Canary Islands informed the agency EFE.

Two of the victims were Romanian tourists and another was Slovak, according to municipal sources.

There were also an undetermined number of minor injuries, including contusions and bruises, who were treated at the scene by teams from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) and lifeguards.

Since Friday, the Canaries have been in a state of pre-alert due to coastal phenomena along the north and west coasts of El Hierro, La Palma, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, as well as the north coasts of La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

The alert was given at 4:07 pm local time (same time in Lisbon), with a large contingent of resources being sent to the scene, including a helicopter and a vessel from the Maritime Rescue Service, a helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group of the Government of the Canary Islands (GES), at least five ambulances from the Canary Islands Emergency Service, as well as members of the beach rescue service using jet skis, Tenerife firefighters, Civil Guard and local police.

The maritime rescue helicopter removed a person from the water and recovered a body, while beach rescue teams, using jet skis, rescued a woman in cardiac arrest, who was stabilized and transported by helicopter to a hospital unit.
