The Buzz About Bees
It’s hard to imagine a world without bees. It’s hard to imagine a world without a third of the fruits and vegetables we eat—berries, cucumbers, almonds and apples to name a few. Yet honey bees and native bees have been mysteriously dying at a drastic rate, which affects $15 billion in crops in the U.S. alone. The suspected causes of this decline range from pesticide use, habitat loss, parasites and illnesses to global warming and loss of biodiversity. While researchers investigate these causes, a growing network of people is taking action to help the bees.
